The Innate In You, LLC So what exactly is Reiki? Reiki (specifically Shamballa) is a hands-on energy healing technique that moves energy throughout the person’s ntire body. The energy helps the innate intelligence within you to function properly. Reiki allows you to relax, which then allows you to release any negative emotions. By releasing these emotions, the body is able to function at its optimal level of wellness. This is great for stress relief, anxiety, relaxation, pain relief and much more. The Reiki session is un-invasive: You lay face-up on a massage table fully clothed, and light touches are gently applied to your body in different areas that are generally related to your chakras in order to balance them. Chakras are energy centers within your body. Having an unbalanced chakra could result in stress, anxiety and other ailments. What brought you to Reiki? I had been searching for a while for my calling. I knew that I wanted to own my own business, but was not sure at the time what I wanted to do. I was working for a chiropractic office, and I remember every seminar that we went to the speaker would say, “You know the moment that you wanted to be a chiropractor.” I kept waiting for my moment – it was something I believed in, so when would my moment come? Well, it came when I met my future teacher, Amy, a Reiki practitioner who rented a space in the chiropractic office. I was immediately drawn to her and full of questions about what exactly it was that she did. I was so excited to try Reiki and, when I did, it was the most amazing experience that I have ever had. I knew at that moment that this was my calling and that I wanted to become a Shamballa Reiki master teacher. How did you learn to practice it? I was taught by my teacher. There are four levels to Shamballa. We combined levels 1 and 2 into one class, which took about four to five hours. Then I took level 3, which was roughly about the same amount of time, as was Level 4. I started my training on June 30, 2006, and finished on Aug. 4, 2006. It was a short amount of time to take all of the classes, but I felt I was ready and was eager to start my career. Once I finished my level 4 class, everyone I knew became a guinea pig. I even offered free sessions when I first started, so I could feel comfortable with what I did. The more I used it, the easier it became. What types of ailments do you treat? Reiki can work with any ailment. I have worked on people with fibromyalgia, MS, cancer, Tourette’s syndrome, anxiety, depression, cellulites ,lymphedima and heartburn, and all experienced some type of relief and healed a lot quicker. Reiki does not heal the ailment, your body does. Reiki just helps to move any interference away from the area that needs to be healed. It helps to reduce the pain, if not alleviate it completely. It helps to clear the depression, so you can work on the inner cause of it. It helps to reduce the stress, so the anxiety can be worked through. Who would benefit from treatment? Everyone. Everyone has stress, and everyone is made up of energy, whether they believe in it or not. Even a well-balanced person with little stress in his or her life can benefit from feeling energy move through the body effortlessly. It almost as if you have cleansed your body and purged anything negative out of your system. Each person has his or her own way of healing, and they should follow whatever is comforting for them. Try whatever works and stick with it! What would you say to someone who’s skeptical of Reiki? They should try it. The worst thing that will happen is that they get a half-hour to an hour of relaxation during which they do not have to do a thing! Then they can decide for themselves, after having a first-hand experience, whether it is going to work for them or not!
