Pittsfield Candidates Night
On March 2, 2015, Pittsfield Listens and the Greater Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce hosted a community conversation with candidates running for local office in Pittsfield. The evening started with candidates introducing themselves. Candidates then joined other citizens at roundtables to participate in 15 minutes of facilitated group dialogue where everyone shared their ideas on the question: What are the critical issues you think are a priority for our next elected leaders? Facilitators then asked each group to identify the top 2-3 priorities. After the small group dialogue, the program shifted where community members were given several opportunities to ask questions directly of the candidates. Small groups met for approximately ten to fifteen minutes with each candidate, where they were able to answer questions and provide comments in a more intimate setting.
In total, fourteen candidates running for various positions were in attendance Approximately 60-70 members of the community participated. This opportunity continues to provide a context in which Pittsfield residents can identify and discuss their priorities for Pittsfield in the near future; gather input from everyday citizens and give candidates an opportunity to listen to voters; and create an opportunity for voters to talk in small groups with candidates in order to ask questions and explore a candidate’s commitments and priorities in the coming few years if elected.
On Sat., Dec. 6, The
Greater Pittsfield Chamber of Commerce kicked off the Holiday Season by
sponsoring the annual Children’s Store and Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration.
